CONTROL OF JAPAN

GENERAL MACARTHUR NOT CONSULTED (Rec. 1.30 p.m.) TOKIO, Dec. 30. Revealing that two months ago he recorded disagreement with the Four Power control for Japan, and now he disclaimed responsibility for the Moscow decision, General Mac Arthur said nevertheless he would endeavour to make the plan work. General MacArthur added that since he had objected to the Washington plan, he had not been consulted. “Whatever the merit or demerit of the plan, it is my firm intent within the authority entrusted to me to try and make it work. The issues involved are too vital for the world’s future to have them bog down.”

General Mac Arthur’s statement followed an announcement by a Far Eastern Commission Press officer in Washington that throughout the Allied discussions the General was kept fully informed of the plan, and did not object to it.
