MEASLES PREVALENT

SCHOOLS AFFECTED (P.A.) AUCKLAND, December 16. There has been a considerable increase in the prevalence of measles in Auckland in the last few weeks, and the position has been .reflected in reduced attendances at several primary schools. The disease is not a notifiable one and, therefore, no statistics are available as to the extent of the outbreak. The District Medical Officer of Health at Auckland, Dr. Hughes, said at the week-end that in certain schools the number of children affected had reached fairly large proportions. The hot weather and the closing of the schools for the Christmas holidays should assist in checking the spread of the disease.
