FIFTY YEARS SYNE (From the “Guardian,” Dec. 6, 1895) Garden Party—A garden party in. connection with the commemoration of the anniversary of St. Andrew’s - Church, Tinwald,, was held in the Domain on Tuesday afternoon. Not withstanding the unfavourable weather, a number of gamfes were started and carried on for some hours. A large Christmas tree, well laden with pretty gifts proved a great attraction to the young folk, TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (From the “Guardian,” Dec. 6,-1920} No New Church—ln conversation with a “Guardian” representative this morning, the Very Rev. Dean O’Donnell remarked that there was no possibility of the proposed new Roman Catholic Church in Ashburton ' materialising for sometime to come. Although the desirability for a new building was recognised the high price of timber and scarcity of all other materials were obstacles calculated to render hopeless any idea of an early start being made.
