SEED CERTIFICATION
INCREASED APPLICATIONS IN MID-CANTERBURY There was a satisfactory increase in the acreage for which application for certification was made to the. Department of Agriculture at Ashburton this season. With the exception of wheat, all sections have increased. An officer of the Department said to-day that tiie number of applications showed that farmers realised the benefit of sowing good quality seed. Proof of the popularity of 11.1. ryegrass is that 500 more acres have been applied for this year than last, which was its first trial in the County. The number of acres, compared with last season’s figures, is as follows:
1945-6-. 1944-5 Montgomery red clover 1691 1601 Italian ryegrass 2971 2233’ Perennial ryegrass ... 36-14 2313 H. 7 ryegrass 552 52 Cocksfoot ...• 2299 2300 White clover 314 252 Wheat 110 189
