RED CROSS SOCIETY

ASHBURTON SUB-BRANCH Final arrangements for a combined Ashburton-Allenton stall and for street collection to-morrow were mhde at the monthly meeting of the Ashburton sub-branch of the Red Cross Society. Stall holders were appointed. A grant of £5 was made to the Transport Section to provide refreshments for returned sick and wounded servicemen who will visit Ashburton for the race meeting on Boxing Day. It was decided to forward letters of cheer to Mesdames 11. C. McNicoll and A. Cookson, who are indisposed. A donation of £2 was received from Mrs R. B. Coward’s knitting circle. Appreciation of a Red Cross parcel was expressed in a letter from Flight Sergeant F. Stayt, of Ashburton. The St. John Ambulance Brigade wrote expressing thanks for gifts of first aid kits and equipment. The chairwoman (Mrs F. Curtis) presided over a good attendance.
