major issues in u.s. (Rec. 9.30) WASHINGTON, Dec. 1. The labour management conference ended without establishing the machinery requested by President Truman to curb industrial strife. The conference disagreed completely on the major issues of wages and collective bargaining, but the spokesman asserted that “substantial advances toward industrial peace were attained.” . , , . The closing session was featured Dy open attacks' on*' the management by leading labour leaders, also a vigorous exchange between Mr William Green (president of the American Federation of Labour) and Mr Phillip Murray (vice-president of the United Mine Workers of America) over the latter s insistence upon placing the wages issue before the conference. . Mr Lewis chided them for their inability to agree, pointing to the management’s “precise, efficient functioning” at the conference. Mr Lewis called on them to put their own house in order by unifying their policies.
