INTERNATIONAL GAMES ELIGIBILITY OF ARMY LEAGUE • PLAYERS (P.A.) AUCKLAND, November 30. Ail assurance has been received by the New Zealand Rugby League from the Minister of Defence (the Hon. F. Jones) that two League players With the New Zealand Army Rugby team in Great Britain will be eligible to play in international matches. The players are J. G. Simpson and R. W. H. Scott. It was recently suggested in England that there was an understanding with the touring team that they would not be included in international matches because they were professionals. The New Zealand Rugby League protested to the Minister of Defence and stated that as neither of the players had ever received any remuneration for playing League football they were not professionals.. The League also stated that the men had served their country with credit on the field of battle and were entitled to represent it on the field of sport. Tn his reply, Mr Jones said that the matter had been cleared up and the men would be eligible for selection for international matches.
