WAKANUI BOX-OPENING The annual box-opening of the Wakanui Young Helpers’ League was held at the residence' of the president (Mrs F. Buttericlc). Two new members were welcomed each receiving a badge. Games, competitions and treasure hunts were enjoyed by the children. 'The result of the bos:-opening amounted to £l2 Os Sid. Helen Bennett qualified for the silver knife, and Elaine Cochrane qualified for the short service badge. Mrs Buttericlc thanked the children and Mrs Corin (secretary), for the splendid work done during the year. She also mentioned seven senior members who continued to hold their boxes. Ruth Hendrie, on behalf of the members thanks Mrs and Miss Buttericlc for the happy afternoon. The secial Christmas tree appeal collected by the children realised £8 13s Bd.
