WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.

METHVEN MONTHLY MEETING. The Methven Women’s Institute, at its monthly meeting, received an invitation from Mount Somers Institute to attend its birthday party. A new member was welcomed. The resignation of Mrs Innes as secretary was received with regret, and Mrs R. Kilworth was appointed to fill the vacancy. Mrs S. M. Jackman was elected Institute reporter, vice _ Mrs Swaney, who is leaving the district. The‘roll-call, “My greatest mistake in the kitchen,” was well responded to. Mrs E. Norrish gave an interesting and amusing talk on the experiences of Commander CamiDbell, a 8.8. C. Brains Trust broadcaster. ; A picture competition was won by Mrs Dewe, with. Mrs, M. Tolputt second. Word-building competitions were won by Mrs E. Norrish. The monthly competitions resulted: Bloom, Mrs A‘. G. Candy 1, Mrs S. M. Jackman 2, Mrs W. M. Walker 3 ; truss, Mrs D. Kilworth 1, Mrs A. G. Candy 2, Mrs McPherson 3; jam tarts, Mrs McPherson 1, Mrs Jackman 2, Mesdames Walker and Dewe (equal) 3; silver spoon, Mrs D. Kilworth 1, Mrs N. Dewe 2, Mrs W. R. Morgan 3; basket vegetables, Mrs A. G. Candy 1, Mrs Jackman 2, Mrs D. Little 3. It was decided that in future hostesses be allotted to each meeting. Mrs A. H. Guthrie (a vice-presi-dent) presided.
