PICTURE FILMS.
ST. JAMES THEATRE. Donald O’Connor and Peggy Ryan madp new friends at the St. James Theatre last night with their clever entertaining in “Chip Off the Old Block,” which screens finally tonight. A newcomer in the cast who also registered strongly is Ann Blyth, who has a pleasing voice and sings delightfully. Helen Broderick, Helen Vinson, Arthur Treacher and Patrick Knowles head the supporting cast. The associate feature on the programme is “The Navy Way,” a bright comedy tracing the experiences of a naval recruit at the Great Lakes training station. Jean Parker and Robert Lowery are the stars. The second episode of the serial is also showing to-night, Saturday’s Attractions. On Saturday afternoon a special matinee programme will be shown, as “ Bataan,” the feature listed for Saturday and Monday is not suitable for children. The matinee programme will consist of “Call of the Canyon,” a Gene Autry outdoor musical drama with plenty of action and comedy; two cartoons, the serial, and an interest item. “Bataan” will be shown on Saturday and Monday nights only.
