ITALIANS ON TRIAL.

ALLEGED BREACH OF ARMISTICE ACTIVITIES BY MONARCHISTS. (Rec. 12.5 p.m.) LONDON, June 28. A trial that promises widespread political repercussions has begun before a military tribunal at Bari, says the Associated Press correspondent at Rome. Defendants are accused of forming a band of 6000 men after the Italian armistice in 1943, pledged to serve the Monarchy against the Communists and Republicans. One of tlie accused, Salvatore Russo, an Italian Army officer, gave evidence that the Army Corps at Bari euipped and supplied the band, and Army Headquarters at Brindisi financed it. King Victor Emanuel received Russo at Brindisi, where plans were made for a Monarchist campaign. Other defendants gave evidence that the band was foiled in an attempt against Victor’s life in the autumn of 1943. The band carried out espionage" against the Communists, maintaining constant watch over the headquarters of the party at Bari and Brindisi. " ! It is alleged that the band committed illegal searches.
