MR STETTINIUS RESIGNS. OCCUPYING OF NEW POSITION. WASHINGTON, June 27. The resignation of Mr E. R. Stettinius as United States Secretary of State was announced by President Truman at a press conference at his home in Independence, Missouri. Mr Stettinius will become United States representative on the Security Council, and also chairman of the United States delegation to the General Assembly of the new world organisation. Mr Stettinius’s position on the Security Council and the chairmanship of. the United States delegation to the General Assembly were the highest posts that the United States could offer, said the President. Now that Mr Stettinius had accepted these great responsibilities he had submitted his •resignation as Secretary of State.
