WITH ROD AND GUN.

OVA GOING TO WELLINGTON REGULATIONS AMENDED. Difficulty having been experienced by the Wellington Acclimatisation Society in obtaining eyed brown trout ova, the council of the Ashburton Society decided last evening to send 150,000 eyed ova to Wellington early in August. Delivery at this time will clear the hatchery at Ashburton for putting down 350,000 rainbow ova expected from Rotorua about the middle of August. The South Canterbury Society advised that it had decided to fall in with the suggestion by the Ashburton Society that the closing date for salmon fishing in the Rangitata River be May 15. . Local angling regulations were amended to provide that anly artificial bait be used in the Ashburton River and its tributaries (excluding the Lagmhor Creek) above Cole’s Cutting. No action was taken in connection with a recommendation from the annual meeting that the Hinds River be closed foi angling on March 31, it being understood that extensive clearing work was to be undertaken in the river by the County Council. Holding Pond For Fry. Consideration was given to the construction of a holding pond for fry to bring them to the fingerling stage before liberation and a sub-committee was instructed to report to the next meeting on the project. It was suggested that the Tinwald Domain be used. The Registrar of Canterbury University College wrote notifying that the Mount Possession Run Company had agreed to prohibit the use of power and motor boats on lakes on the run. The Commissioner of Crown Lands had been asked to give effect to the' restrictions. Ground rents for all the Society’s reserves were fixed at the same as last year. It was agreed to erect a convenience for women at the Rakaia reserve. Mr J. Donn was re-elected chairman for the ensuing year and Mr A. J. Millichamp was elected delegate to the Council of South Island Acclimatisation Societies.
