Ambulance Society—Owing to the extra number of applications for admission to the Ashburton Ambulance Society, it has now been decided to extend tlie list, but as this extension must be limited, those who wish to join should apply early. As some misconception appears to exist with regard to the examinations of members for certificates, it is cleai’ly to be understood that no person need sit.for certificates unless he wishes. Tlie matter is quite voluntary. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO. (From the “Guardian,” May 30, 1920). Potato Crops—Many potato crops which had not been lifted were damaged by the early and severe frosts recently. An Elgin farmer states that when digging his crop of tubers he discovered that those not covered with earth were frosted, although the rest of the crop was in good condition.
