THE WEATHER.
SOME SUNSHINE TO-DAY. After a succession of bleak or wet days, the weather at Ashburton today cleared somewhat, the sun shining fitfully. There was a frost of 8.1 degrees this morning, followed by a keen northerly breeze. The maximum and minimum temperatures yesterday were 45.6 and 37.7 degrees, .compared with 47.1 and 36.1 on Monday. The barometer to-day registered 29.62 inches, against 29.57 yesterday. TO-DAY’S FORECAST. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — There is an anti-cyclone in the Western Tasman and a deep depression south-east of the Chathams. The forecast for the east coast of the South Islahd from Blenheim to Oamaru to 5 p.m. to-morrow is as follows: Light to moderate variable winds and fair weather predominating, but a temporary south-westerly change, with a brief period of showers probable during the night, which will be cold with frosts.
Further outlook: Showers probable on Thursday night, otherwise fair.
