FOOD SHORTAGE IN GERMANY. I ' . i LONDON, May 28. The United States Army announced ! that only sufficient food is on hand (to last the German civilian population until the end of June, says the Associated Press correspondent. Rationing in the 15th Army zone, including Western Ruhr, the Rhineland and the Saar, from to-day allows 150 calories for normal consumers and 2800 for heavy workers. The Military Government reports the distribution of more Ilian 23,000 j tons of seed potatoes, 1500 tons of ! seed wheat and G7B tons of other I seeds. Measures for meeting the food j crisis include the release of German j prisoners of war, the removal of milij tary restrictions on the collection and movement of food and the recruitment 'of children not attending school for combating insect pests. It is officially stated that the lack of fertilisers is likely to result in crops below the average. President Truman and Mr Herbert Hoover to-day conferred for 45 minutes on the European food situation, states a Washington message. Mr Hoover, in the last Great War, headed 'the American organisation for relief in Europe.
