TRIESTE DISPUTE

TALKS STILL PROCEEDING. CONCILIATORY ATMOSPHERE YUGOSLAVS ESTABLISH ROAD BLOCKS. (N.Z. Press Association —Copyright.) (Rec. 12.50 p.m.) LONDON, May 28. It. is reliably reported that talks for the solution of the, Trieste problem are continuing in a conciliatory atmosphere in spite of the establishment of Yugoslav road blocks, and the announcement that Marshal BrozTito’s military mission is leaving Rome, reports the Rome correspondent of the British United Press. Mr Harold MacMillan has left for London with a full report on the situation, and Admiral Stone has taken his place in the discussions. The diplomatic exchanges going on between Marshal Tito and the British aiid American forces are mainly aimed at devising a face-saving formula for Marshal Tito. British and American troops moving further east in Venezia-Guilia in the

last 24 hours have encountered Yugoslav roadblocks, but no details of what happened at these blocks have yet been revealed. Yugoslavia will be represented in Rome after the departure of Marshal Tito’s military mission by the Yugoslav delegation to the Mediterranean Advisory Commission. Marshal Tito, in referring to the “Gestapo-clad different uniforms” oppressing the Slovene minority in Carinthia was apparently alluding to the Austrian Provisional Government, writes Reuter’s Continental observer. He adds that Field Marshal Sir Hai’old Alexander’s military government at present is tolerating the provisional administration, although it reserves the right to suspend or dismiss the officials.
