CLOSING SESSION
LABOUR CONFERENCE. FIGHT AGAINST BIG BUSINESS | i " . i : MISS WILKINSON’S APPEAL. i j ~~~ (N.Z. Press Association —Copyright.) (Rec. 1.10 p.m.) LONDON, May 25. ! The Labour Party Conference, at . the closing session, passed a resolution regretting that the British Government at last year’s civil aviation conference at Chicago did not support proposals for international ownership and control of 1 the world air services., j The conference called on the National Executive and the Parliamentary Party to continue to work toward that end. i Miss Ellen Wilkinson moved a resolution which was carried in silence, with delegates standing, recording appreciation of the heroism and self-sac-rifice of the men and women who were kept in German concentration camps : for fighting for Socialism against the ; Nazi Fascist greeds. ' Miss Wilkinson said: They are the people who kept the soul of Germany the finer traditions alive. They are j the heroes of the secret cells; —men, ; women and children who went with their heads high to the crematorium - fires.
Miss Wilkinson, closing her address, said: “Do not apologise for our leaders who were members of the Government. They were given the hardest and dirtiest jobs, but Mr Churchill" himself paid tribute fo them. We were proud to work under Mr Churchill during the war. It was not our fault that the man who was a great national leader now chooses to be regarded as leader of one political party. He cannot as party leader claim the allegiance, respect and immunity which was given him as national leader. We are fighting the party of the rich and powerful big business. My final appeal to you is to go out and fight clean and hard, and come back with a solid labour majority.” Vv-
