OBITUARY.
MR F. FINDLAY, M.P. (P.A.) AUCKLAND, April 1. Mr F. Findlay, member of Parliament for Hamilton, died in the Waikato Hospital last evening. Mr Findlay who ivas the proprietor of a bakery business at Hamilton had been prominent in local body affairs for many years. On three occasions, he was elected chairman of the Waikato Hospital Board, and hint also been official visitor to the Tokanui Mental Hospital and the Waikeria Borstal Institution. He was a member of the Hamilton Borough Council for more than 10 years. I-Ie was chairman of the Hamilton Young Men’s Christian Association for 10 years, and was an elder of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. In sport Mr Findlay won the Decathlon championship for the whole of Scotland. He represented New Zealand in athletics in Great Britain in 1919 and after his return to the Dominion won three New Zealand championships. At the last General Elections, Mr Findlay successfully contested the Hamilton seat in the interests of the National Party, defeating Mr C. A. Barrell* sitting member since 1935. Voting at the election was as follows: —F. Findlay (National), 7660; C. A. Barrell (Labour), 7206; A. E. Allan (Democrat Soldier Labour), 885; W. H. Thompson (Real Democracy Movement), 193.
