READY FOR BATTLE.
ALLIED FORCES IN ITALY.. ROME, March 31. The Allied Commander -in - Chief (General Mark Clark), addressing his troops, said: "We will have victory in Italy. Our ammunition has piled up and our divisions are largely tilled up and'rested. We are ready I'or another battle.” ‘‘lt. is clear now that the German army lacing General Clark’s loth Army Group has become practically a trapped army,” says a Rome correspondent. “There are no longer prospects of the 2-5 or more divisions—in some eases the cream of the German Army—being able to withdraw. They will have, to light it out in spite of dwindling supplies, • ‘With the Brenner „ and other smaller passes from Italy nearly permanently blocked, it is estimated that it would lake .Marshal Kesselring’s successor mure Ilian six months to evacuate. At the same time the Russians are threatening I" over-run the supply and escape routes through Austria. making'the chances ot evacuation ever more remote. The Germans therefore have, no alternative but to attempt to tight it out. and if they are beaten and surrender, it. is probable that the decision in Italy will not he long delayed."
