Deer Shooting Season. —To-day is the opening of the deer shooting season in the Alford Forest, Rakaia (Manuka Point) and Rangitata districts. Expectations are of the most optimistic for good shooting, one stalker stating that the sport to be had at Rakaia Gorge “was the best in the southern hemisphere.” Those who were lucky in the ballot for deer licences got away to the back country early this week.
