THE WEATHER.
CHANGES IN HOLIDAYS. After a hint of frost in the morning, warm sunshine made yesterday at Ashburton most pleasant. There was an easterly breeze. Five points of rain fell before 9 o’clock this morning, and tlic sky remained clouded and threatening. The atmosphere was rather cool. The maximum and minimum temperatures yesterday were 66.3 .and 47.8 degrees, compared with 61.2 and 35.7 on Thursday. The barometer to-day registered 30.15 inches, against 29.98 yesterday. TO-DAY’S FORECAST. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — General situation; An anti-cyclone is centred near North Cape and near Tasmania. A trough extends from New South Wales to Cook Strait. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru to 5 p.m. to-morrow is as follows: Moderate south-westerly winds becoming light and variable. Cloudy to overcast with scattered drizzle at first, but mainly fair to-morrow. Cool temperatures with some frosts inland. Further outlook: Probably fair.
