AWARDS TO SOLDIERS.
OFFICERS AND MEN HONOURED. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Advice that the King has approved awards to 2nd N.Z.E.F. (Middle Ea.st) personnel “for gallant and distinguished service in the field” has: been received by the Minister of Defence (the Hon. F. Jones). All have been prisoners of war for various periods, but the majority have since returned to New Zealand. Among them are: Member of the Order of the British Empire. Major John Burns. Father, Mr J. Burns, Wellington. Captain Hilary Mervyn Evans. Wife, Mrs M. Evans, Auckland. Captain Norman Brodrick Mitchell. Wife, Mrs M. A. Mitchell, Wellington. One Military Cross and three Military Medals are awarded and a number of men are credited with mention in dispatches.
