HOSPITAL PATIENTS.
QUESTION OF INFORMATION, (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A clause in the Statutes Amendment Bill before the House of Representatives makes it an offence for a hospital board employee to disclose information concerning the condition or treatment of any patient in any institution without the prior consent of the patient or his representative, whether the patient is still in the institution or not. This has given rise to the question whether the effect AA'ould be to prohibit publication in press reports of accidents 1 of the nature of the injuries sustained by those involved. However, a sub-section of the clause provides that the Minister of Health may authorise this information to be given, and, it Avas stated, in response to inquiries made to-day, that there Avas no intention that the clause should apply to the usual press reports and that steps Avould be taken to make that clear to the hospital authorities.
