MANY AWARDS.

EXPEDITIONARY FORCE IN ITALY FORMER ASHBURTONIAN M.M. The King has approved a number of awards to personnel of the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force in recognition of gallant and distinguished conduct in Italy. Following is the complete list, for the Distinguished Service Order and the Canterbury recipients only of the Military Cross (of which 18 are conferred) and the Military Medal (37). In addition seven Distinguished Conduct Medals are awarded.

Warrant-Officer Desmond Patrick Corrigan, who has been awarded the Military Medal, was well known in Ashburton prior to his departure overseas in 1940. He was on the staff of South Island Motors (with headquarters at Sheehan’s garage) and came to Ashburton from Christchurch in 1937. He was a keen sportsman, particularly interested in badminton. Fishing was another of his interests and led to his joining the Acclimatisation Society.
