RED CROSS SOCIETY.

LO WC LI FF E-COLDSTREAM The Loweliff e-Coldstream Subbranch of the Red Cross Society at its monthly meeting decided that, the Red Cross quilt be sent to a hospital in Italy, and that the last New Zealand soldier to leave the hospital he presented with it. , It was decided that members bring tried recipes suitable for the compiling of a cookery book to be sold tor Red Cross funds. Gifts for hospital use were four face cloths and four hot water bag covers., , . , . It was reported that work handed m since last meeting was eight cranwells, and 11 pairs mittens. Wool for knitting and sheep skin gloves to be made up for men on minesweepers, were distributed. Members were asked to bring to the next meeting mittens made from old socks.

Mesdames K. Heddell and L. Bain were hostesses. The president (Mrs G. Reddecliffe) presided.

THE MAYFIELD SUB-BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the Mayfield Sub-branch of the Red Cross Society was held in the Lodge Room, the president (Mrs J. J. Mulligan) piesiding over an excellent attendance. Two interesting letters from Private T. Burgess, a prisoner of war in Germany, were read. Final arrangements for the bazaar on May 27 were made, and the following stallholders were appointed: Tea, Mrs G. H. Lamb and helpers; produce, Mesdames H. Scown, M. Murdoch, C. Gunn and S. Miller, and Mr .T. Blair; variety, Mesdames C. Du list an and R. Austin; cakes, Mesdames J. Murdoch, R. W. Oakley, B. Bowden and N. Murdoch; ice-cream, Mesdames G. B. Murdoch and Smee. Wool was distributed, and seven cranwells, six scarves, six lmsifs and a pullover were handed In.
