LOCAL ELECTIONS.

BOROUGH COUNCIL CANDIDATE.

Mr F. X. McDonnell has announced his intention of contesting a seat on the Borough Council, Mr McDonnell is deputy-chairman of the Rehabilitation Committee and President of the Catholic Literary and Debating Club. He is secretary of the Mid-Canterbury Labour Representation Committee and of the Ashburton branch of the Labour Party. Mr McDonnell was. a.member of the committee which inaugurated the Home Guard in Ashburton. Mr McDonnell's decision. to stand brings the number of candidates for the 11 seats on the council to 16. The Returning Officer for the Borough .'Mr R. C. Major) announced today that Mr J. Thompson had been nominated for a seat on the Borough Council by Messrs R. J. Tucker and W. Biinie.

COUNTY NOMINATIONS. The following nominations have been received by the Returning Officer for the County (Mr G. Kelly; : Hospital Board —Mr W. G. Gallaaher, nominated by Messrs H. C. B. Withell and H. A. MacKenzie, County Council —Mr J. T. Morgan (Mount Somers Riding), nominated by Messrs S. Reveley and E. J. Waugh; Mr W. G. Gallagher (Rangitata), nominated by Messrs Ravmonjd Oakley and W. R. Tilson; Mr H. A. Harrison (South Rakaia), nominated by Messrs j. Langley and W. R. J. Lambie. Mr C. A. Campion has announced that he will again stand for one of the County seats on. the Hospital Board.
