BARON WOOLTON.
OUTLINE OF HIS CAREER. Raron Woollon, head of the Ministry of Food in Great Britain from 19h> I ill recently, was not a peer born nor a product of the great public schools, said Mr Rankes Arner.v, leader of the British Food Mission, in his address ot the Wellington Chamber of Commerce. in his early years Lord Woolton had long experience among the common people. Educated at Manchester Grammar School and Manchester University, he Avas later Warder of the University Settlement of Liverpool and learned much about the poor in the dock areas that Avas to stand him in good stead Avhen as Minister of Food he had to organise for tlie feeding of rich and poor alike. Lord Woolton had held most of the important directorships in Liverpool and resigned them when he became a Minister. Reports from all sources, eA'en remarks by people who did not knoAV that members of the Ministry staff Avere fellow travellers in public conveyances, showed that Lord Woolton had earned the esteem and affection of all. When lie had been elevated to the peerage he took the name of a suburb of Liverpool. It Avas really remarkable, added Mr Amery, the genuine affection held by the people of Britain for Lord Woolton, an affection equalled only by that held for Mr Churchill.
