GERMANS AT ANZIO BEACHHEAD ITALIANS SEIZE A HEIGHT BOTH ARTILLERY VERY ACTIVE (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright.) (Rec. 11.20 a.m.) LONDON, April 2. After four weeks comparative quiet in the Anzio beachhead, in Italy, there are signs that the Germans are becoming more aggressive. A correspondent says that in the last two or three days there have been Germans thrusts all along the perimeter. These have not been on a big scale, but it is thought they may be preparing the way for another attack. The ground is drying and our troops have reported movement of German tanks and self-propelled guns. Our guns knocked out two of the tanks. Artillery on both sides has been in action nearly all the time and the Allied troops, Avho have been in the beachhead 16 weeks, can rarely escape the sound of gunfire even when they are withdrawn from the front line for a rest.
With the snow capped Apennines in the centre of the main front, Italian troops fighting alongside the sth Army have seized another height north-east of Cassino.- —British Official Wireless.
