WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.

LAURISTON ANNUAL MEETING. There was a large attendance at the annual meeting of the Lauriston Women’s Institute. The president (Mrs C. A. Fyfe) presided. Motions of sympathy with the relatives of the late Flight-Sergeant R. Payne and the late Private E. Hooper (Mitcham) were carried in silence. Lieutenant Edna Lemon, the late Flight-Sergeant R. Payne, Gunner E. Rlain, Driver T. McNeill, Signalman W. Smith, Trooper W. Nicol and Private W. Hillyer wrote from overseas acknowledging Institute parcels. The secretary (Mrs T. E. Doak) reported that 25 parcels had been sent to district servicemen on active service overseas. A donation of .C 3 for the Soldiers’ Parcels Fund from the Harvest Home Dance Committee was gratefully received. Final arrangements were made for the social evening to be held next Monday. Mesdames T. E. Doak and C. A. Fyfe were appointed delegates to the annual meeting of the Mid-Canterbury Federation. An appeal was made to members to bring a parcel of clean rags to the next meeting. The annual report reviewed a year of progress and harmony. The most important task had been the dispatch at regular intervals of parcels to 25 district servicemen serving overseas. Miss J. Hayward (treasurer) presented the financial statement, which revealed a satisfactory position. The election of officers resulted: President, Mrs C. A. Fyfe; vice-presi-dents, Mrs J. A. Mackie and Mrs J. Mclntosh; secretary, Mrs T. E. Doak; treasurer, Miss J. Hayward; committee, Mesdames H. T. Crothers, J. H. Stevens, J. G. Marshall, O. E. Hooper, P. A. Goodwin, and Miss E. Maidens. Highest points in competitions were won by Mrs J. A. Mackie, Miss J. Hayward being second and Mrs C. A. Fyfe third. ' Competitions held during 'the meeting, judged by Mesdames Sewell (Christchurch) and J. Irwin, resulted: Vase, Mrs J. G. Marshall 1, Mrs F. E. Amos 2, Miss J. Hayward 3; bloom, Mrs N. Boag 1, Miss J. Hayward 2, Mrs J. A. Mackie 3; collection of vegetables, Mrs J. A. Mackie 1. . The hostesses were Mesdames J. G. Marshall and J. Hall.
