“INVASION” BOATS.
USE OF WASTE PAPER. Special “invasion” coats, made entirely from waste paper, have been manufactured by the Allies for assault against occupied Europe, because the fog and mist of the Channel crossing have been found to add at least slb deadweight to commando clothing. The chairman of the Commonwealth Salvage Commission, Mr P. L. Coleman, said that these “invasion" coats were made as a result of the famous Dieppe raid. Investigators sent with the attacking forces found that soakage and moisture from the crossing impeded speed and agility. Scientists developed a light-Aveight coat, similai to a badly-fitting nightgown, and waterproofed Avitli Avax. On landing on enemy soil the soldier tore the coat off and, Avith his uniform and equipment completely dry, was ready for action.
