SECOND FRONT
BRITISH RAILWAYS PREPARE.
HUGE TRANSPORT OPERATION
TRAIN RATIONING INTRODUCED,
CN.Z. Press Association—Copyright.) (Rec. 12.20 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 20. British railways are engaged in the most gigantic transport operation ever undertaken, says the “Daily Mail.” The railways are moving troops, equipment, and military supplies in preparation for mounting a full-scale second front. Train rationing was introduced at London stations last Monday, after the greatest Week-end traffic since the war began. Platforms were locked as soon as a trainload of passengers were admitted* to th*e station. People outside had to wait for the next train or return home.
The Minister of Transport (Lord Leathers) has ordered railway traffic to be dealt with in the following order of priority: Troops and war supplies; mail and other freight; passenger traffic. \
