SCHOOL YEAR ENDS.

CONCERT AT LISMORE. The school break-up at Lismore was celebrated by a concert at which a varied programme of songs, choruses, recitations and drill display, was presented by the children. Mr T. Mulligan (chairman) presided. Miss Sim reported on the year’s work. Mrs J. Fleming presented Patricia Green and Trevor Addis (who are leaving this year for secondary education) with prizes. A cricket set given by Mrs T. Mulligan was presented to the school. Floral emblems were presented to Miss Sim, Mrs Green (accompanist), Mrs T. Mulligan, Mrs J. Fleming and Mr T. Mulligan. Miss Sim and Mrs Green were also presented with gifts from the children. After supper a dance was held to music by Mesdames Green and Addis. Mr A. Chambers was master of ceremonies.

CONCERT AT LOWCLIFFE. Many and varied were the items given by the children of the Lowcliffe School at the break-up ceremony. Special prizes were presented by Mr H. Price (chairman of the School Committee) who spoke of the good work of Miss H. M. Giddings, who lias resigned from the school. On behalf of the district, Mrs H. Price presented Miss Giddings with a roll of notes.

Mrs D. S. Studholme also referred to'the esteem that Miss Giddings was held by both children and parents. Tile concert programme included songs by th k e seniors, play by the infants, song by Jean McKay, pianoforte solo by Gordon Price, play by the juniors, , fairies’ dance by junior girls, play by seniors, song by Janette Bruce, flag song by the school, “God Defend New Zealand” and the National Anthem.

The prize list was:—Diligence: Koura Bain; writing, John Gibson, handwork, ,Peter Harris, John Bigham; sewing, senior: Audrey Dunlop; junior: Janette Bruce; diligence, George Smith; gardening, John Dunlop; handwork, Mervyn Bond; diligence, Audrey Dunlop; tennis, Jessie Gibson.

The annual picnic to Timaru was held on Thursday, when over 120 parents and children spent a very enjoyable day.
