CURE FOR COLDS.

NEW SUBSTANCE TRIED. LONDON, Nov. IS. Medical men are investigating what, it is hoped, will prove n cure for a common cold. Professor W. E. Gye, while suffering from a severe cold, received a sample of a new substance petulin, which is intended for cancer tests. Petulin, like penscillin, is derived from fungus. Professor Gye, knowing its antibacterial qualities, tried it as a nasal douche for his cold, with the result that he was completely well next morning.

Experiments since carried out among naval men and Wrens have shown good results, hut petulin will not be released until after further trials have established its value and safety.
