THE WEATHER.

CONDITIONS MILD TO-DAY. Although the sun shone brilliantly for a few hours this morning, the sky became slightly clouded toward noon. Following this, conditions were mild. One of tiie highest maximum temperatures of the month was recorded yesterday in 71.2 degrees, the highest being 71.6 on the 3rd. On Thursday the maximum was 66.9 degrees. The minimum yesterday was 41.8 degrees, against 40 on Thursday. The barometer reading to-day was 2 9.87 inches, against 30.02 yesterday.

TO-DAY'S FORECAST. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The forecast for the east coast ol the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: Northerly to north-westerly winds, becoming fresh or strong; occasional rain developing in the Alps, but otherwise fair, with mild to warm temperatures. Further outlook: Cool south-west-erly change, with scattered showers.
