NEW YORK. A new United States aluminium plant is producing aircraft “skin” by the mile, while also swinging into capacity forgings and extrusions. Sprawling over 280 acres (113 hectares) in the Middle West, the huge works is the latest addition to the United States States Defence Plant Corporation roster of light metal producers. The mills roll 33001 b (1500 kilogram) ingots more than 50 times faster than pre-war equipment. Completed in 15 months, the plant adds considerably to the amount, of aluminium now being processed in the United States, which in a few months will reach 2,100,000,0001 b (952,000 tons) annually.
