Bryce was fined £2O. In the Ollivier Handicap Pacing Power finished first half a length in front of Shadow Maid, with Parshall five lengths away third, and Loyal Rey fourth. The placings of the first two horses were reversed by the stewards because of interference by Pacing Power with Shadow Maid. The totalisator investments amounted to £27,405 10s, against £17,858 last year. THE MELBOURNE CUP. MELBOURNE, Nov. 13. The equal favourite, Dark Felt, who it was rumoured at one stage, might not start, won the Melbourne Cup in great style at Flemington to-day. He was favoured by an excellent run round the turn into the straight.

Details are:— Melbourne Cup, of £7500; two miles.—Dark Felt 8.4 (Hartney) 1, Counsel 7.5 (Unkovitch) 2, Claudette 7.5 (Knox) 3. There were 24 starters. Three lengths; neck. Time, 3.23 J. The New Zealand horses, The Joker and Dominate, finished ninth and nineteenth respectively. The Joker was in a good position early, but faded away. He was ridden by P. Glennon. Dominate was never in the call. He was to have been ridden by the prominent light-weight, J. Purtell, but a fall earlier in the afternoon prevented Purtell riding again during the day, and R. Finger replaced him.
