" METROPOLITAN TROTS. ; win for Springfield globe. Conditions at Addington for the conj p eluding day of the Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting were as favourable as those which ruled on Cup day. The attendance was considerably smaller, but except on the main handicijjp speculation was just as heavy. The turnover for the afternoon was £128,007 10s, against £95,847 last year. The aggregate for the two days was £269,219, compared with £195,266.
J. Bryce, jun., driver of Shadow Maid, was charged with and found guilty of causing interference during the race to Bronze Eagle, who was sent to a break and in turn interfered with Joan Conquest and Coquette. Bryce was fined £2O. In the Ollivier Handicap Pacing Power finished first half a length in front of Shadow Maid, with Parshall five lengths away third, and Loyal Rey fourth. The placings of the first two horses were reversed by the stewards because of interference by Pacing Power with Shadow Maid. NAPIER PARK RACING CLUB. RAKANUI WINS STAKES. (P.A.) NAPIER, November 14. The Napier Park second spring meeting was conducted yesterday in fine, cool weather. The totalisator investments amounted to £27,405 10s, against £17,858 last year. Concluding results: — Waiohiki Stakes, of £275; nine fur-longs—l-1 Rakanui 10.4 (Midwood) 1, 4-3 Pompit 7.2 2, 5-5 Travancore 7.0 3. Length; half-length. Time, 1.52. Meannee Hack Handicap, of £125, (apprentice riders); one mile—l-2 Ozel 8-8 (Paramore) 1, 4-4 Lastik 7.7 2, 2-1 Silver Coin 7.7 3. Four lengths; length and a half. Time, 1.40 2-5. THE MELBOURNE CUP. MELBOURNE, Nov. 13. The equal favourite, Dark Felt, who it was rumoured at one stage, might not start, won the Melbourne Cup in great style at Flemington to-day. He was favoured by an excellent run round the turn into the straight.
Details are:— Melbourne Cup, of £7500; two miles.—Dark Felt 8.4 (Hartney) 1, Counsel 7.5 (Unkovitch) 2, Claudette 7.5 (Knox) 3. There were 24 starters. Three lengths; neck. Time, 3.23 J. The New Zealand horses, The Joker and Dominate, finished ninth and nineteenth respectively. The Joker was in a good position early, but faded away. He was ridden by P. Glennon. Dominate was never in the call. He was to have been ridden by the prominent light-weight, J. Purtell, but a fall earlier in the afternoon prevented Purtell riding again during the day, and R. Finger replaced him.
