FIFTY YEARS SYNE. I (From the “Guardian,” Nov. 15, 1893). Election Campaign—Mr R. M. Cuthberton addressed a meeting of electors at Hinds on Monday evening, and after his address was accorded a hearty vote of thanks on the motion of Mr T. Holmes, seconded by Mr J. Sawle. Mr J. Keays occupied the chair. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AG'O, (From the “Guardian,” Nov. 15, 1918). Influenza Epidemic—The number of cases of influenza in Ashburton is undoubtedly on the increase, notwithstanding the precautions taken by the authorities. In one street, it is stated, in every house there were patients, many of them young children. The Borough Couiicil has prohibited all indoor and outdoor gatherings, including religious .services.
