AIR FORCE BALL.

ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATED. A very successful hall was held at the Radiant Hall to celebrate the anniversary of the establishment of an Air Force, station at Ashburton a year ago. it was attended by about 250 couples, comprising airmen and their friends. An imposing, threetier birthday cake was cut by Lead-ing-Aircraftman B. 11. I-lodder. FlightSergeant. E. G. Hains was Master of Ceremonies. An excellent supper was served. The decorations, which were the subject of a. good deal of favourable comment, were very appropriate, consisting largely of model aircraft, wall cartoons and flags.

Addressing the dancers, the Mayor (Dr. J. Connor) said it was a privilege to have the Air Force in such close proximity <o the town. He was presented with a small model aircraft. Wing-Commender S, L. Gilkison, Commanding Officer of the station, thanked the committee l'or their efforts in maktng the ball a success.
