NO IRON ORE.
SWEDISH SUPPLY FOR GERMANY.
RAILWAY “NEEDS REPAIRS.” (Rec. 10.45 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 17. The Stockholm newspaper “Aftonbladet” says that 40 or 50 ships are waiting at Lulea. for iron ore which has been ordered by the Germans, but never arrives. The official reason for the decline in deliveries of iron ore is the interruption of the main electric railway service to Lulea “for extensive ie j pair,’ which are expected to continue until mid-November, when the port will be icebound.
The Stockholm correspondent of the British United Press estimates that shipments of iron ore from Sweden to Germany have fallen by two-fifths in the last few weeks. Germany normally receives about 6,000,000 tons iion ore from Lulea during the six oi seven months the port is free of ice.
