WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.

FLOWER SHOW AT MARONAN. The annual flower show was held in connection with the monthly meeting of the Maronan Women’s Institute. There was a large number of attraclive entries. Mr Scales displayed some of his hiooms and gave a talk on how to improve the bulbs. Mrs G. Scales (Hampstead) judged the flowers and Mrs J. Mather (Hampstead) the cooking. Miss M. Whiting received most points for cooking and Miss P. Davidson most for flowers. . \ First prizes were won as follow: Flowers —Violas, Miss P. Davidson; pansies, Miss P. Davidson; primroses, Mrs McLean; polyanthus Mrs Bishop; bowl daffodils, Mrs Rhodes jun.; vase of daffodils, Miss P. Davidson; collection of daffodils, Miss P. Davidson; short trumpets, Mrs Rhodes senr.; long trumpets, Miss P. Davidson; flower not on schedule, Mrs Bishop; anemones, Mrs Davidson; shrubs, Mrs Mulligan; vase flowers, Mrs Rhodes, senr.; posy in egg-cup, Mrs McLean. Cooking—Scones, Mrs Don; pikelets, Mrs Husband; Madeira cake, Mrs Husband: malt biscuits, Miss M, Whiting; sponge, Mrs Davidson; dateloaf, Mrs Rhodes jun; gingerbread, Mrs Rhodes jun.; fruit cake, Mrs Bishop. . The president (Mrs J. Davidsoii) presided at the business meeting, when a report on the half-yearly meeting of the Mid-Canterbury Council was read by the secretary (Miss P. Davidson).

A letter was received from Private C. Whiting thanking members for parcels. Best wishes were received from the Ealing and Hinds Institutes.
