LOSSES OF LAMBS.

SMALL PERCENTAGE INEVITABLE RESULT OF BAD WEATHER. It is the opinion of farmers throughout the Ashburton County that a certain percentage of losses of lambs as a result of the* bad weather yesterday and the day before is inevitable. Losses so far notified have fortunately been small, amounting to no more than half a dozen on any particular farm. Districts like Winehmore, where lambing has not become general, will be fortunate in this respect as the ground will have had time to dry a little. Minor losses have been reported from Wakanui and Chertsey. A farmer from the Ashburton Forks district said this morning that he could not remember a spring when the weather had been so bad for lambs and the feed so scarce. There was a shortage of feed throughout the county and sheep which had a rough time in the snow storm at the end of June were not able to stand iip to such conditions. ~
