Aircraftman M. J. Lewitt, son of Mr and Mrs T.' Lewitt, of Walnut Avenue, who has been on leave in Ashburton, left to-day for the North Island.

Mr M. Watson, a son of the Rev. R. Watson, of Dunedin, and formerly of Ashburton, who is on holiday in Ashburton, was welcomed at the annual meeting of St. Andrew's Church last evening.

The annual meeting of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church last evening decided to send letters of greeting to Sister Mavis Patterson and Mr lan Lion, who are in the Ashburton Public Hospital.

A motion of sympathy Avith the Rev. George Miller and family in the death of Mrs Miller was carried at the annual meeting of the congregation of St. Andrew’s Church last evening.

The Rev. C. H. Olds (President of the Methodist Church of New Zealand) is the guest of the Rev. and Mrs R. B. Gosnell, of the Methodist Parsonage, Havelock Street. Mr Olds will conduct an inspirational service in the Baring Square Church this evening and afterwards will be welcomed at a social gathering in the Sunday School Hall.

Yvonne Wright, of Mayfield, won the musical monologue under 18 and song, girls and boys, under 18, with 101 and 82 points respectively at the Timaru Competitions yesterday. Billie Jackson, of Ashburton, Avon the clog dance under 14, with 82 points, and Lillian Jenson and Daphne Hands, of Ashburton, were very highly commended in the Highland fling, girls or boys under 10.

Flight-Sergeant M. Petrie, who took part in the bombing of Sicily, Pantelleria and Lampedusa, and whose name was mentioned in a eable message in Tuesday’s “Guardian,” as Sergeant Petie, is a son of Mrs G> Turner, of Grey Street, Ashburton. He was born at Ashburton and educated at the Ashburton East and Technical High Schools. Upon leaving school he entei’ed the baking trade and was engaged in this up till he enlisted in the Royal Ncav Zealand Air Force.
