ST. JAMES THEATRE. Commencing to-night fit 7.30 p.m. and again to-morrow at. 2 p.m.— double-feature programme, "Sailors On Leave,” with William Lundigan and Shirley Ross. Second feature, a. thrilling drama "Gangs of the City,” with Wendy Barrie, Phillip Terry arid Edgar Kennedy. Plus’"Don Winslow of the Navy,” Ep. 10. ' "Sailors On Leave” is a gay, entertaining film dealing with the gallant boys in Uncle Sam’s sea forces. The story deals with the adventures and misadventures of one Charles (Chuck) Stephens, who is allergic to women. His two Navy pals, played by Cliff Nazarro and Chick Chandler, trump up a gag letter, supposedly written to him by an attorney, notifying him that he will inherit 25,000 dollars, provided he marries before his 27th birthday. All tho Gobs on Chuck’s boat have notes which they have taken for money they lent Chuck when he got into a jam at Manila, and all are determined that Chuck marry before his birthday, so that there will be money forthcoming for them to collect what he owes them. His two pals who framed the false inheritance letter, on the other hand, are equally determined to keep. Chuck out of matrimony, for if ho marries, their hoax will be exposed and the entire Navy will wreak vengeanco on their heads. Wendy Barrie and Philliu Terry have the romantic leads in "Gangs of the City.” Miss Barrie portrays wealthy Bonnie Parker, who is allergic to newspaper men in general, and in particular to Bill Raymond (Phillip Terry), a young career man on the "New York Bulletin.” When a false story, given to him in a fit of annoyance, causes the young reporter to be fired, Bonnie straightway repents and enters into a deal with Scat Masters, an underworld character, to buy documents which will incriminate the master minds of a ring engaged in smuggling aliens into the United States. She believes that with these documents Bill can blow the lid off the alien smuggling ring editorially, and thus get back his job
