STILL BURNING
FIRES IN BERLIN ON TUESDAY. MINIMISING THE DAMAGE. CORRESPONDENTS WARNED (N.Z. Press Association —Copyright.; (Rec. 10 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 25. The Air Ministry News Service says that fires were still burning in Berlin last night when Mosquitos were over the city about 11 o'clock. In contrast to the clear sky on Monday there was a good deal of cloud over the German capital last night and this, with the glare of hundreds of searchlights and smoke which still hung over the city, made observation very difficult. No fighters were seen by the Mosquitos, but the ground defences were active. According to a Zurich report all neutral correspondents have been compelled to leave Berlin proper -and live, until further notice, in the outer suburbs. Reports or even hints as to the damage caused by the latest heavy raid are strictly forbidden. The Minister for Propaganda made it clear that correspondents were expected to write in praise of the effectiveness of the defences.
The report adds that it is confirmed from an unimpeachable source that rail traffic to the German capital has been interrupted. British Official Wireless.
