ELECTION PUBLICITY.
THE POLICY OF NEWSPAPERS. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, August 25. “The newspapers of the Dominion, in spite of the heavy rationing of newspi’int paper will endeavour to give the fullest possible publicity to the coming election campaign,” said the chairman of the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association to-day. “Restrictions on the import of paper have imposed a heavy handicap on the press for the last three years, and last year particularly the stock position became extremely critical. During the last month or two the situation has shown a slight improvement, and advantage will be taken of this to relax to a modei’ate extent, and for the election period, the rationing restrictions in force.
“From now on up to the date of the elections, daily newspapers, generally speaking, will be in a position to allot some extra space each week to cover election publicity. Some papers which have carefully nursed their stocks may be able to do a little more than others, but all feel that the occasions of the elections is a matter of such far-reach-ing importance to the public that the utmost possible should be done to give the fullest coverage practicable of election speeches and events consistent with paper stocks available.” ■
