CROWN LEASES.
PROVISION FOR EXTENSION. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 27. Leases and licences administered by land boards are to be extended by a further two years by a clause in the Reserves and other Lands Disposal Bill, introduced in the House to-night. Leases then about to expire were extended for a period of live years by the Reserves and Other Lands Disposal Act passed in 1941, it being stated in the preamble to tlie relevant clause that the uncertain conditions • prevailing made it difficult to find a [ fair and reasonable basis on which to I assess rentals. It was also stated that negotiations for the renewal of leases, or for the granting of new leases, frequently began three years before tlie expiry of existing leases, and that in those circumstances it was desirable to extend leases about to expire for a period sufficient to allow conditions to become stable. This was fixed at five years in the 1941 act, and the present bill extends the period to seven 'years. The bill was read a first time and referred to tlie Lands Committee. The Agricultural Emergency Regula* tions Confirmation Bill, which was also introduced and read a first, time, validates and confirms regulations made under the authority of the Agriculture (Emergency Powers) Act, 1934. These regulations are the Lemon Marketing Regulations, 1940, Amendment No. 1; and the Butter Marketing Regulations, 1937, Amendment No. 1.
