THE LIQUOR REGULATIONS. CHECKING ILLEGAL SELLING. FAR-REACHING AMENDMENTS • (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Far-reaching regulations against slygrog selling are contained in the Licensing Act Emergency Regulations, which are to be gazetted. Wholesalers and brewers, while not debarred from supplying the trade on Saturday afternoons during the hours when hotels are closed, are prohibited from supplying the public with the minimum of two-gallon purchases at those times. In regard to wine-makers, another amendment stipulates that unless should be of good character and subject to the Licensing Laws.. In view of the recent decision of the Supreme Court that the prohibition against the removal of liquor from licensed premises during closed hours is confined to liquor purchased on such premises, another regulation makes such removal an offence, irrespective or when or where the liquor avss procured.

ft is also provided that if- a person is in uniform it shall, till the contrary is proved, be sufficient evidence that he is at that time a member of Ihe Armed Forces.

A wider definition is given to the meaning of the Avord “premises,” which Avill iioav include a motor car or street.

The regulations also considerably tighten up the control over certain clubs where the police are usually told that liquor consumed has been brought in by patrons. Another amendment stipulates that a person Avho keeps for sale intoxicating liquor Avithout authority is liable to a fine of £SO or imprisonment for one month, and for subsequent offences £IOO or three months. The police are given even Avider powers of search without warrant if licensing offences are suspected, and they may arrest Avithout warrant a person reasonably suspected of an offence against the Licensing Act or those Regulations.
