RED CROSS SOCIETY.

HIGHBANK SUB-BRANCH MEETS. Mrs E. M. Bogg (president) presided over a mooting of tho Highbank Sub-Branch of the Red Cross Society, which was well attended. Articles knitted with wool from the Ashburton. depot were handed in and moio wool w*ns distributed. Mrs J. AY. Thomas was appointed organiser of the Junior Red Cross. Mrs E. J. Bland gave a fruit cake for competition, and Mrs J. Allen offered to ice it. Both were thanked for •their help. The president reported on the annual meeting of the Mid-Canterbury Centre, where Sir Hugh Acland addressed tho meeting and emphasised the need for assistance from all subbranches for hospitals where sick and wounded soldiers are being cared for. He mentioned Bnrwood Hospital in particular. Afternoon tea was served. The next meeting was arranged for July 14.
