SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
MEETINC AT ASHBURTON EAST. The Ashburton East School Committee met last evening, the chairman (Mr W. S. Kyrr) presiding. The Headmaster (Mr S. G. Maefarlane) reported that the roll was 12.3 and the attendance, with the exception of last week, had been very good. Ihe staff remained as at the last report. The school had been visited by Llio Education Department’s medical oilicer. who reported remarkably few cases of serious defects. Miss. Shear!, supervisor of special classes, had just completed her annual visit. Mr Bignell, the Canterbury Education Board’s architect, yesterday examined the proposal for a trough to wash the milk bottles. Accounts were complete for the growing of vegetables in the school gardens for patriotic purposes. The local patriotic fund will benefit to the extent of £3 7s.
For the visiting committee Mr Kowke reported there had been several hurst pipes because of the recent heavy frosts. Two stoves needed new bottom gratings and dampers, and catches were, required for some of the windows. A deputation comprising Messrs R. J. Martin, 11. Driscoll and J. Gregory waited on the committee about the bus service for pupils from the Seafield district, and it was decided to forward the representations of the deputation to the Education Board-
